South African Spinner Reported For Suspect Bowling Action
Prenelan Subrayen had made his ODI debut against Australia on Tuesday in Cairns
South African cricketer Prenelan Subrayen has been reported for suspect bowling action after the all-rounder featured in the first ODI played between the Proteas and the Australian team in Cairns.
Subrayen, 31, bowled 10 overs of off-spin for just 46 and dismissed opener Travis Head in his spell. Notably, his action had come under suspicion earlier as well, but he was allowed to continue bowling after undergoing rehabilitation prescribed by Cricket South Africa (CSA) in 2012.
However, his troubles with his action didn’t end there after his action was flagged in the Champions League in 2014 and a domestic T20 game in 2015. He went and failed through the reassessment and was only cleared to bowl again in March 2016, as per reports.
Subrayen will now need to undergo an independent assessment of his bowling action at an ICC-accredited facility within 14 days. While he can continue bowling until then, he will be stopped from doing so if he fails the assessment.
The second and third ODIs will be played on August 22 and 24 in Mackay. Subrayen can feature in these games if the Proteas team includes him in the playing 11.
