India’s historic triumph in the 2025 ICC Women’s World Cup brought long-awaited recognition not only for the entire team but also for pacers Renuka Singh Thakur and Kranti Gaud, as both are set to be felicitated by their respective state governments after returning home. Renuka, who hails from Rohru district in Himachal Pradesh, will receive a ₹1 crore cash prize from the Himachal Pradesh government, and Kranti will earn the same cash prize from the government in Madhya Pradesh, her home state.
Their performances were instrumental in shaping India’s victorious campaign. Renuka, who led India’s attack with the new ball, may not have ended as one of the top wicket-takers, but she bowled in nine matches, claiming seven wickets at a miserly economy rate of 4.2, often setting the tone for India in the powerplay overs. Her spells against Australia and New Zealand were especially crucial, where she restricted run flow on flat batting tracks, allowing India’s spinners to capitalise later.
Kranti, on the other hand, was one of the revelations of the tournament. The right-arm seamer took nine wickets in eight matches, including a match-winning 3 for 20 against Pakistan, which earned her the Player of the Match award. Known for her sharp seam movement and deceptive pace, she regularly broke partnerships and kept India in control during tense chases.
Beyond the individual state honours, both Renuka and Kranti were also recognised nationally as the BCCI announced a ₹51 crore cash award for the World Cup-winning squad, in addition to the prize money from the ICC, which amounted to roughly ₹39.78 crore for the team.
These accolades amounting to roughly ₹90 crore underscored not only their contribution to India’s success but also the growing stature of women’s cricket in the country with the historic victory in Navi Mumbai.
