NEWSSunrisers Hyderabad have approached Dale Steyn to become their bowling coach, Cricbuzz reported on Thursday (December 16). The former South African paceman announced his retirement from all forms of cricket in August earlier this year. The Indian Premier League franchise is also planning to rope in Hemang Badani to be part of their coach staff.
Head coach Trevor Bayliss and batting coach Brad Haddin have moved on after the last season, while their long-standing mentor VVS Laxman is now the director of cricket at the National Cricket Academy. Meanwhile, Tom Moody, who was Hyderabad's director of cricket last year, has been re-designated as head coach.
One of the greatest bowlers of the modern generation, Steyn picked up close to 700 wickets for South Africa and also featured in 95 IPL games. The right-arm paceman played for Deccan Chargers, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Gujarat Lions, and Royal Challengers Bangalore and took 97 wickets at an impressive economy of 6.92.
Hyderabad, who finished at the bottom of the points table in IPL 2021, have retained skipper Kane Williamson, Abdul Samad and Umran Malik. The Orange Army released some big players like David Warner, Jonny Bairstow, Rashid Khan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
