Despite a historic Ranji Trophy 2024/25 season, Vidarbha’s Harsh Dubey was ignored at the IPL 2025 mega auction. However, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) utilised the opportunity to rope in the young all-rounder at the expense of Smaran Ravichandran’s injury.
The 22-year-old has already picked up five wickets for SRH, including a 3/34 against Kolkata Knight Riders, on May 25 (Sunday). During his incredible spell, the left-arm spinner picked up Rinku Singh, Andre Russell and Ramandeep Singh, finishing with his best-ever IPL figures.
In the aftermath of that spell, SRH’s head coach Daniel Vettori showered praises on the youngster, stating that he will become a complete all-rounder by the start of IPL 2026.
"We’re very pleased with what he’s [Dubey] done since joining the team. He’s obviously a very clever bowler—he understands conditions well, knows how he needs to bowl, and can mix things up effectively,” Vettori said in the post-match press conference.
“We were really looking for that bit of control, and he’s provided it in all three games he’s played so far,” he added.
Across the other two games, Dubey picked up the wickets of Mitchell Marsh and Virat Kohli, showing his consistent evolution. Vettori reckoned that his participation in the India ‘A’ tour would help him better his game.
“The great thing for him is that between now and the next IPL, he’ll be playing a lot of cricket, whether for India A or his domestic team. There will be plenty of opportunities for him, and we believe he can continue to grow—not just as a bowler, but also as a batter, which was an important part of our decision-making as well,” he added.
