Sri Lanka Cricket on Friday confirmed that injured all-rounder Lahiru Madushanka will not be a part of the 2021 T20 World Cup, while announcing five additions to their initial squad announced last month.
Pathum Nissanka, Minod Bhanuka, Ashen Bandara, Lakshan Sandakan and Ramesh Mendis will now travel to Oman on October 3 ahead of the showpiece event.
"Lahiru Madushanka, who was named in the original squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, will not travel with the team as he is recovering from an injury," an official release said. "Accordingly, a total of 23 players will consist of Sri Lanka’s World Cup Squad," it added.
Bhanuka kept wickets and opened the innings during the limited-overs series against India and South Africa in Kusal Perera's absence. Bandara, Sandakan, Mendis and Nissanka last featured in the while-ball series against India.
The Dasun Shanaka-led side will begin their Group A campaign on October 18 against Namibia at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, which will also host their second match against Ireland on October 20. Sharjah will host their final group game against Netherlands on October 22.
