Sri Lanka pacer Shiran Fernando tests negative for COVID-19

Sri Lanka pacer Shiran Fernando tested negative in the recent tests conducted on Wednesday while Bangladesh included Naim Sheikh in their squad for the final ODI

Sri Lanka pacer Shiran Fernando has tested negative for COVID-19 in the third round of RT-PCR test he had undergone on Wednesday, according to a report by Cricbuzz.

Three members of the Sri Lankan squad tested positive before the first ODI, but later bowling coach Chamida Vaas and pacers Isuru Udana were declared negative after a second round of tests, while Fernando still returned a positive result.

"Fernando tested Corona negative (in the last test)," Bangladesh's team official Rabeed Imam confirmed to Cricbuzz on Wednesday.

Sri Lanka is looking to avoid a clean sweep of the three-match ODI series after losing the second ODI by a margin of 103 runs (D/L Method).

Meanwhile, Bangladesh have added Naim Sheikh to their squad for the final ODI on Friday after Mohammad Saifuddin suffered a concussion during the second ODI after being hit on the helmet by Isuru Udana's bouncer. He was replaced by pacer Taskin Ahmed for the second innings after showing signs of concussion.

Saifuddin was taken to a city hospital straightway for a routine checkup but no major problem was found in his reports. He is currently undergoing a 24-hour observation period.
