The third Test between England and India, at Lord’s, is a Test match classic, with the game well poised running into day five. While England need six wickets, India still need 135 runs to walk away from Lord’s with one of their biggest Test wins in history.
But a lot can go down on day five, making this a well-contested battle. Sri Lankan legend and a commentator for the clash, Kumar Sangakkara, has given England a slight edge over India to come away with a 2-1 series lead. Why?
“I think England will be more confident than India at the moment. The way I saw India bat, there were a few jitters. They seemed a bit negative,” said batting great Sangakkara to Sky Sports.
In the same conversation, Indian all-rounder Washington Sundar came all guns blazing, stating that India would win this contest easily after lunch. But Sangakkara reckoned that India should give themselves a target of runs, and not just say they will win it down, losing just one wicket.
“Washington Sundar told us they wanted to be one wicket down, but I think they should have given themselves a target of runs,” he added.
Like Anil Kumble mentioned on JioHotstar, Sangakkara reckoned that the partnership between Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul could be key for an Indian win here in London.
“If Rahul and Pant can stretch this partnership to beyond 100 for the team, then India are back in the driving seat. Pant will play his shots. You can’t go into your shell. If India do, England will be further in front. India must bat smart. Rahul can anchor but the rest have to score runs,” he said.
