Delhi Capitals won an absolute thriller at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi by beating the Rajasthan Royals in the Super Over. Batting first, DC scored 188/5, and the match was tied after many ups and downs. RR also ended up with 188/4, and the match went to the Super Over.
In the Super Over, RR batted first and scored 11 runs. DC sent KL Rahul and Tristan Stubbs and both swashbuckling batters scored 13 in just four deliveries to win the game for their side.
Mitchell Starc was the hero for DC, as he managed to defend just nine runs in the last over, stifling batters of the quality of Shimron Hetmyer and Dhruv Jurel. He also took the ball in the Super Over for the Capitals and gave away just 11 runs, which Rahul and Stubbs easily chased down.
Speaking at the post match presentation, RR skipper Sanju Samson accepted that the score was chaseable but Starc’s brilliant bowling made it impossible for them to win the game from such a strong position.
"I felt that that score was definitely chaseable," Samson said.
"The batting line-up which we had, the start which we had in the powerplay, I felt it was definitely a chaseable score. But I think, as we all saw, some fantastic bowling by Starcy in the last over of the innings. I think that's quality from the international. One of the best guys around in the world. So I think I would like to give it to Starcy. I think he won the game for them."
He also said that the message in the Super Over wasn’t complicated for the RR batters and they were just asked to swing hard by the management.
“To swing hard [what was the message in Super Over], nothing else. Swing as hard as possible. You know he is going to come as hard as possible. You just have to go hard at him back.”
RR are currently eighth on the points table after winning two out of their first seven games. They face Lucknow Super Giants next on April 19 in Jaipur.
