MS Dhoni’s 200th appearance in IPL
A warhorse, a tactical master, fierce hitter, an erudite gloves-man and a role model for youngsters. These are few of the shades of MS Dhoni we have witnessed in his prolonged career. Today (19th October) against Rajasthan Royals, Dhoni fielded for the 200th time in IPL, the first player to achieve this feat. Dhoni has represented Chennai Super Kings for 170 matches and the rest 30 matches he played for the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiants. Out of the 200 matches he has played in IPL, Dhoni has fielded as the captain of a team in 184 matches, 170 matches for Chennai and 14 matches for Supergiants.
MS Dhoni hits 4000 runs for CSK
MS Dhoni in his milestone match reached yet another landmark. This time it was for Chennai Super Kings. Batting at number 4 or below for most of his IPL career, reaching 4000 runs is an exceptional achievement. Dhoni became the 2nd Chennai batsman in IPL to post 4,000 runs. Suresh Raina leads the chart with 4,527 runs among the men in yellow. Overall in IPL, Dhoni is the 4th batsmen to score more than 4,000 runs for a franchise, Virat Kohli who has played all the seasons of the IPL for Royal Challengers Bangalore is at the top in this list with 5,759.
Lowest first innings score this season
The IPL 2020 season is getting worse for the men in yellow. Struggling to put runs on board and losing wickets at regular intervals has been a common feature of Chennai Super Kings' batting. In their match against Rajasthan Royals, even after having a decent enough start during the Powerplay (43/2), Chennai middle order yet again failed to make an impact. Hence, they posted a below-par total of 125/7, which is the lowest first innings total of this season. No other team has posted a score of below 140. Sunrisers Hyderabad had scored 142/4 against Kolkata Knight Riders in Match 8, which was the lowest first innings total prior to this.
Least boundaries in a match
In a low scoring encounter, generally, boundaries are hard to come by. In Match 37, Chennai Super Kings posted only 125 in the first innings that included 12 fours and one six. While chasing, Rajasthan Royals scored 12 fours and two sixes. In total there were only 27 boundaries scored in the match. It is the lowest boundary count in a match played this season. Previously, in Match 25 between Chennai and Royal Challengers Bangalore, there were only 28 boundaries, which was the least.
