Stats: Third highest second-wicket partnership for Delhi powers them to an emphatic eight-wicket win

Here are a few noteworthy stats from Match 58 of IPL 2022 between Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai

Buttler's bittersweet day

After being asked to bat first, Rajasthan Royals were jolted early as Jos Buttler, the leading run-scorer in this edition of the Indian Premier League, was dismissed for seven runs off 11 deliveries.

In his short stay at the crease, Buttler became only the fourth player to hit 200 fours for the Rajasthan Royals in the competition when he smashed a solitary boundary in his innings. Ajinkya Rahane is on top of the list with 302 hits to the fence, followed by Shane Watson with 236 fours.

Devdutt Padikkal's blazing innings

Coming in at number four, Devdutt Padikkal was aggressive in his 30-ball stay at the wicket and scored 48 runs to power the team to 160 runs in the first innings.

The southpaw scored at a strike rate of 160 in this innings, which is the third-best for him in the tournament with a minimum of 20 deliveries in an innings. His match-winning hundred for the Challengers against the Royals off 52 balls at a strike rate of 194.23 in 2021 is the highest.

Warner and Marsh light up DY Patil

In pursuit of 161 runs, Delhi got off to a horrendous start as they lost KS Bharat on the second ball of the innings. However, Mitchell Marsh and David Warner steadied the innings with a second-wicket partnership of 144 runs to guide the team inches closer to the target.

The duo recorded the third-highest second-wicket stand for the Capitals in the IPL, surpassing the previous best of 143 held by Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant in 2017.

Displaying an array of strokes all around the ground, Marsh enthralled the fans with a sublime 89 off 62 deliveries studded with five boundaries and seven hits over the fence.

En route to this record partnerhsip, the right-handed batter scored his third-highest individual score in the shortest format of the game. His unbeaten century for the Perth Scorchers against the Hobart Hurricanes in 2021 is the most runs scored by him in an innings.

David Warner joins an elite list

While all the attention was on Marsh and his blazing innings, David Warner silently went about his business and recorded his 59th fifty-plus score in the tournament.

The southpaw anchored the innings and held one end up, allowing Marsh to play his strokes and take the attack to the opposition bowling unit. Warner reached his half-century off 42 balls with five boundaries and one six, joining an elite list of players to smash 200 fours for Delhi in T20s.

Virender Sehwag is on top of the list with 292 fours, followed by Pant with 256, while Warner is fourth with 201.
