Stephen Fleming announced head coach of Texas Super Kings

Along with Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals too have invested in a team in MLC

Former New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming has been announced as the head coach of the Major League Cricket (MLC) side Texas Super Kings (TSK), which is in partnership with Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Fleming is also the head coach of CSK, who has led to four titles. TASK in a statement announced that CSK will provide operational expertise and provide all necessary support for the team to participate on the field.

“The (Texas Super kings) team will be led by coach Stephen Fleming. Fleming is a former captain of the New Zealand national cricket team and head coach of Indian Premier League team Chennai Super Kings. He played in the first-ever Twenty20 international to be staged as captain of the New Zealand team in 2005,” said a TSK statement.

Along with CSK, Mumbai Indians (MI) and Delhi Capitals (DC) too have invested in a team in MLC. The six-team competition is scheduled to begin on July 13. While DC are partnering with Seattle Oracs, MI have acquired the New York franchise.

The MLC recently held a draft in Houston, where the franchises selected nine players each, from a pool of over 100 cricketers. The remaining slots will be filled by world-class T20 cricketers from across the world. The likes of Aaron Finch, Wanindu Hasaranga, Quinton de Kock, and Mitchell Marsh are some of the top players who have already signed up to play in the tournament.

“Cricket is the second-most popular sport in the world with a global fan base of around 2.5 billion followers, but there has not been an opportunity for the sport to grow in the US,” Anurag Jain, co-owner of the MLC Texas Super Kings, said.

“We look forward to having a professional team in Texas for the passionate local cricket community to root for and to introduce the sport to new fans across the country,” he added.
