Steve Smith out of Sri Lanka series due to concussion

Smith landed on his head while fielding on the boundary in the second T20I against Sri Lanka

Australia batter Steve Smith has been ruled out of the remaining three T20Is against Sri Lanka due to concussion, Cricket Australia confirmed on Sunday.

During the second T20I at Sydney, which Australia won in the Super Over, Smith dived over the boundary rope trying to stop a six hit by Maheesh Theekshana in the final over by Marcus Stoinis and landed on his head.

"Steve Smith has concussion and will be subject to low level protocols for the next few days and full recovery in 6-7 days. He will miss the remainder of the Dettol T20 International Series against Sri Lanka," CA said in a release.

Smith managed to flick the ball back into the field but it was adjudged six by the third umpire as Smith had his foot touching the boundary before he made the leap.

Sri Lanka scored 17 runs in the final over as the match went into the Super Over which Australia won by chasing six runs. Smith scored 14 runs off 15 balls as Australia put up 163/6 in the regulation 20 overs.
