NEWSStuart Broad has returned to England's XI for the fourth Test against Australia in Sydney. Ollie Robinson, who has picked up 26 wickets in the Ashes so far misses out along with Chris Woakes due to a shoulder niggle.
Broad, who missed the first Test in Brisbane and the third one in Melbourne, returns to replace Robinson at SCG.
Assistant coach Graham Thorpe says Broad and vice-captain have a point to prove at the SCG and has labelled the "caged tigers."
England have made no changes to their batting combination despite being bowled out for just 68 in the Boxing Day Test. Australia have made just one forced change to their XI with Usman Khawaja coming into the side in place of Travis Head, who tested positive for Covid-19 last week.
Khawaja, who is expected to bat at five, last played a Test for Australia during the 2019 Ashes series in England. There were calls for leg-spinner Mitchell Swepson to play alongside Nathan Lyon, but a lesser spin-friendly surface combined with some wet weather went against him.
After his heroics at the MCG, Scott Boland has retained his place in the XI, but given that Josh Hazlewood (side strain) and Jhye Richardson (leg) are not 100% fit, Boland will be seen in action again at the SCG.
Australia captain Pat Cummins confirmed that Hazlewood would have played in Sydney had he been fit. "It's no secret that if Joshy Hazlewood was available then he was going to play," Cummins told reporters, according to Cricket.com.au.
"He's been just a brilliant bowler for us for a long period of time.
"We gave Josh every chance we could, just felt like he couldn't bowl at full tilt yesterday. We're still hoping he'll be right for Hobart."
Australia have taken an unassailable 3-0 lead in the series and despite some rain being predicted over the five days in Sydney, Australia will look to take one step closer to completing a whitewash.
