21-year-old Sundeep Jora, who missed the World Cup qualifiers in Zimbabwe, returns to Nepal’s 16-man squad for the upcoming Asia Cup. The right-handed batter has represented the country 11 times across formats, with his last appearance being in the Asian Cricket Council (ACC)’s Emerging Asia Cup in Sri Lanka, where he scored 24.
Alongside that, Nepal have also picked up uncapped off-spinner Mousom Dhakal. The off-spinner was set to play in the Cricket World Cup (CWC) League 2 series in Dubai, but an injury ruled him out of the competition. Dhakal was influential in Nepal’s only win at the ACC competition, picking up two wickets.
Batting all-rounder Rohit Paudel will lead the side after their captain Gyanendra Malla left a huge void by announcing his retirement. The pace-bowling all-rounder Sompal Kami too marks a place for himself in the setup after recovering from his injury during the Emerging Asia Cup and will be a major part of Nepal’s pace-bowling unit alongside Karan KC.
Nepal have been drawn in Group B alongside Asian giants such as Pakistan and India, with them facing Pakistan on August 30 in the tournament opener before a clash against India on September 4.
