NEWSFormer chairman of selectors MSK Prasad is surprised to see 'India's best T20 bowler' Yuzvendra Chahal was not named in India's T20 World Cup squad. However, Prasad understood the reasoning behind picking Rahul Chahar over India's leading wicket-taker in T20Is - Chahal.
"I think he is our best T20 bowler in terms of wickets. He has done superbly in the last 4-5 years. Fortunately, or unfortunately, what the selectors must have thought is the competition between Rahul Chahar and Yuzvendra Chahal. On flat wickets like in Bangalore, he (Chahal) has never disappointed his captain Virat and he's always given you wickets," Prasad told Sports Tak
Also, the fact that Chahar has been instrumental in Mumbai Indians winning back-to-back Indian Premier League (IPL) also would have worked in his favour according to the former wicketkeeper. "But if you see his performance in the last year, year and a half, there is a little dip in his performance. Rahul Chahar on the other hand has played an important role in winning back-to-back IPL titles for Mumbai Indians. Probably that went on Chahar's favour," Prasad added.
Other than Chahal's axe there were a few surprises in India's T20 World Cup squad, one of which was Ravichandran Ashwin finding a place in the 15-man squad.
Chahal has as many as 63 T20I wickets from 49 matches, while Chahar, who made his debut in 2019, has picked up seven wickets in five matches for India.
Chahal has been in good form in the UAE leg of the ongoing IPL, having picked up seven wickets in four matches so far.
