Surrey sign Kieron Pollard for 2022 Vitality Blast season

Surrey County Cricket Club have confirmed the signing of Kieron Pollard, who will be representing the club in the forthcoming Vitality Blast season. Pollard last played domestic T20 cricket in England back in 2011, where he represented Somerset, but having now retired from international cricket, the 35-year-old has signed a deal with Surrey. 

The former Windies captain, who is currently representing Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League, is expected to be available from Surrey’s second match of the season. 

Speaking after signing for Surrey, Pollard said that he’s ‘thrilled’ to be returning to the Vitality Blast following an extended hiatus, and hoped that his experience will enable Surrey to challenge for the title.

“It has been quite some time since I’ve played county cricket and I’m thrilled to be returning to the Vitality Blast competition in Surrey colours this year,” Pollard said.

“The Kia Oval is a special place to play, especially in front of a full house. This Surrey side is full of talent and should certainly be mounting a challenge for the title. I hope that my experience will add a vital ingredient to the club’s success this year.”

A delighted Alec Stewart, Director of Cricket at Surrey, said that Pollard’s all-round ability will make a ‘significant difference to the depth of the squad’.

“We’re very pleased to bring Kieron to the club. He brings an incredible range of skills as well as experience at the very highest level of the sport. His all-round ability will make a significant difference to the depth of the squad.”

Pollard will have company at Surrey. The club have already acquired the services of Pollard’s Trinidad teammate Sunil Narine, who is expected to be available for the entirety of the competition.

Surrey will kick-start their 2022 Vitality Blast campaign against Glamorgan on May 27.
