Naman Dhir, or the cameo man, as the fans of the Mumbai Indians (MI) are calling him now, credited their batting coach Kieron Pollard for his improved showing in this season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
“The conversations with Polly gave me a lot of confidence… He has played close to 700 games. Strategic planning for each bowler while watching videos helps me plan my game with him. Thankfully, I was able to execute it well,” Dhir said in the post-match press conference after MI’s 59-run win over Delhi Capitals (DC) on May 21 (Wednesday) that led to them qualifying for the playoffs.
The Punjab batter also described why Mumbai were 132/5 in the first 18 overs and how they managed to reach 180/5 eventually.
“We were trying to keep things quite simple. The wicket was on the slow side, so we were trying to just time the ball rather than muscle it. That's what we practice daily and talking to Polly and Hardik bhai has helped me a lot,” he added.
Dhir has scored 186 runs in nine innings, remaining not out on four occasions, averaging 37.20 and striking at 182.35.
