Bangladesh got off to a perfect start in their World T20 campaign in the Super 12s as they edged past the Netherlands by nine runs at Hobart to record their first win in the second round of the T20 World Cup across all the editions.
After posting 144 runs in the first innings, Taskin Ahmed dismantled the Dutch batting unit with crucial strikes in the powerplay to set the tone for the win for the Tigers.
In the pre-match press conference ahead of their clash against Bangladesh, Shakib Al Hasan stressed on the importance of the pacer in the bowling unit and his role in the side.
"He's one of the leaders now after Mashrafe's exit. He has done tremendously well in the last two or three years for Bangladesh. He's leading by example, " he said.
"Having said that, we've got a very good fast bowling group in all three formats, and they are doing really well. Can't be more proud of the way they've improved themselves and come this far, and as a result, it's been showing now. I hope they continue this form through this World Cup, and I'm sure we'll have a very good World Cup," he further added.
The all-arounder also shared insights on how Bangladesh will look at building their playing XI for each game based on the conditions.
"We don't want to be predictable. We'll look at the opposition. We'll look at the conditions. That's how we have been preparing ourselves for this World Cup because every ground is different, he said.
"The dimensions are different. The wind factor is different. The weather is different. We'll obviously plan accordingly. Might not go in our way, but that's how open we are," he concluded.
