In what’s set to be a huge boost for the Indian side ahead of the Asia Cup next month, ace speedster Jasprit Bumrah has reportedly conveyed his availability to the selectors.
According to an Indian Express report, Bumrah, who played only three of the five Tests away in England, has informed the selection committee that his body is fit and ready for the multi-nation tournament that will be played in the UAE next month.
“Bumrah has informed the selectors that he will be available for Asia Cup selection. The selection committee will meet and discuss it when they meet next week,” Indian Express quoted a source as saying.
Notably, the 31-year-old’s last T20I appearance was in the 2024 T20 World Cup final, where he famously helped India clinch victory from the jaws of defeat.
Bumrah’s availability will mean India will have a full-strength squad at their disposal, with skipper Suryakumar Yadav also having successfully recovered from a Sports Hernia operation that he recently underwent. The only quandary for the selectors will be to decide what to do with Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal, both of whom have not been in the team’s T20 plans over the past year.
The selection committee is expected to meet on August 19 (Tuesday) and announce the squad. The Asia Cup will be played from September 9 to 28 in UAE in the T20 format.
