Temba Bavuma Returns As South Africa Announce Squad For India Tests
The Proteas Test captain missed the series against Pakistan due to a left calf strain
South Africa Test captain Temba Bavuma returns to the squad after an injury lay-off for the two-match series against India, starting November 14. The batter missed the recent Test series against Pakistan due to a left calf strain. As a result, it was Aiden Markram who led the Proteas in the series, which ended 1-1.
Prenelan Subreyan and David Bedingham, who were part of the squad for the Pakistan Tests, miss out.
Simon Harmer, Keshav Maharaj and Senuran Muthusamy are the frontline spinners in the squad, while the pace attack led by Kagiso Rabada will have all-rounders Corbin Bosch, Marco Jansen and Wiaan Mulder to support him.
The first Test gets underway at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on November 14 and the action will then shift to Guwahati, which will host its first-ever Test from November 22.
Speaking of the squad and the India challenge, head coach Shukri Conrad said, “We’ve kept the bulk of the squad that competed in the two-match series against Pakistan. Those players showed real character and fought hard to come from behind and draw that series.
“We are anticipating a similar challenge in India, and many of the players who stood up in those conditions will once again be key for us.
“Pakistan was a squad effort and India will demand the same. Every player has a role to play in ensuring we remain competitive in what is always a tough place to tour.”
