The temperature rose at the Ekana International Stadium in Lucknow when Digvesh Rathi gave an aggressive send-off to Abhishek Sharma after dismissing the left-handed batter, who had scored 59 off just 20 deliveries in his innings.
It was the eighth over of the second innings of the game between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), and SRH were already bossing the chase, having smashed 98 runs from the 206-run target by the 7th over itself. Abhishek was batting in great flow and had already hit Ravi Bishnoi for four sixes in his over.
Rathi, like the smart customer he is, bowled a googly on the 3rd delivery of the eighth over and tried to keep the ball away from Abhishek’s massive hitting arc. The left-hander looked to smash it over extra cover, but was caught by Shardul Thakur in the deep.
As soon as the catch was taken, Rathi gestured for Abhishek to go back to the pavilion, exchanged some words and then completed his notebook celebration where he pretends to log in the dismissal in his register. Abhishek didn’t seem to have taken kindly to this and responded to Rathi. Umpire Michael Gough had to come in between the two to separate them eventually.
Rathi has already been found guilty of aggressive and indisciplined behaviour multiple times this season, and it looks highly probable that he might attract some disciplinary action after this kerfuffle in the middle.
