Jasprit Bumrah did everything that was asked of him and he was capable of in the tour to England, which included two brilliant fifers. However, despite that, his efforts have largely gone unappreciated because he missed two of the five Test matches that Indian played on this tour due to workload issues.
Speaking in a video on Reddit, former Indian Test skipper and arguably the greatest batter born in the country, Sachin Tendulkar slammed all such trolls. He highlighted Bumrah’s brilliance and said that India losing the games Bumrah played and winning the ones he didn’t was a mere coincidence, and has no cricketing logic to justify the correlation.
“I know people are discussing a number of things – jo Tests khela nahi, voh hum jeete (India won the Tests he didn’t play) and all that. To me that’s just a coincidence, to be honest,” Tendulkar remarked, as quoted by the Indian Express.
“Bumrah started off really well, got five wickets in the first Test. He didn’t play the second but in the third and fourth again at Lord’s he got 5 wickets. So, out of 3 Tests he played, he has picked five wickets twice.”
The batting legend also added that for him, Bumrah is right up there with the best cricketers, and no amount of slander will dilute his image in his head.
“The quality of Bumrah is exceptional,” Tendulkar said.
“It’s unbelievable what he has been able to do so far. To me, he has been a consistent performer without any doubt, I would put him right at the top with anyone else.”
