The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) today named a list of 50 probables for the forthcoming domestic season, and the list included the name of Mohammed Shami, who was left out of India’s tour of England due to fitness reasons.
Shami, 34, featured in the Champions Trophy 2025 for India after playing all three formats for Bengal in the 2024/25 domestic season, but evidently struggled with bowling longer spells even in white-ball cricket. The veteran pacer then endured a horror IPL 2025, going at an economy of 11.20, and was deemed not reliable enough to be taken for the England tour.
The forthcoming domestic season could be Shami’s last chance to show that his body could still hold up enough to play Test cricket. The World Test Championship (WTC) Final against Australia in June 2023 remains the last Test match played by the 34-year-old, who missed the entirety of the 2023-25 WTC cycle.
The 2025/26 domestic season kicks off with the Duleep Trophy from August 28. Shami, if deemed fit, could represent the East Zone.
