Rohit Sharma took some time to come into form in the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). His scores this season before the last game against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were 0, 8, 13, 17, 18, and 26. However, in the last two games, he has scored 76* off 45 against CSK and 70 off 46 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Notably, he has scored consecutive fifties in the IPL after nine seasons, with the last instance coming in 2016, when he scored 68* against Kolkata and then 85 against Pune in back-to-back games.
Rohit looked in great touch against SRH and got out his full arsenal of shots in Hyderabad. He smashed three huge sixes and eight fours in his innings, which ensured that MI suffered no hiccups in the 144-run chase in Hyderabad despite Ryan Rickleton falling early. He also achieved double record-breaking feats on the day.
Rohit became MI’s most successful six-hitter, overtaking Kieron Pollard, who has 258 sixes in 171 innings. Rohit reached there in 260 innings. He also completed 12,000 runs in T20 cricket while batting in the second innings and became only the eighth player ever to reach the milestone.
He helped MI register their fifth and fourth consecutive win of the season. They also jumped from sixth to third on the points table after this win. Safe to say, Rohit’s return to form has also been accompanied by MI finding the required momentum for the playoffs this season.
