THESE Fitness Tests To Decide Rohit Sharma’s Australia Tour Fate, And ODI Future?

Apart from the usual Yo-Yo test, the 38-year-old will also have to clear the newly introduced Bronco test

India’s ODI captain Rohit Sharma is set to undergo his fitness assessment tests at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru on September 13, according to a report by the Times of India.

"Yes, Rohit will be at the BCCI's CoE from September 13 for fitness tests. He will be based here for two to three days and will also practice at the facility to fine-tune his preparations for the Australia white-ball tour in November,” a source told TOI.

"With the CoE also staging the Duleep Trophy final at its main ground (A) from September 11-15, Rohit will undergo fitness tests and train at a different ground at the same facility.”

Apart from the usual Yo-Yo test, the 38-year-old will also have to clear the newly introduced Bronco test, implemented under the guidance of India’s strength and conditioning coach Adrian Le Roux.

According to the Rugby Football Union, “The Bronco Test is a hard-aerobic running assessment where participants have to complete a sequence of shuttle runs over 60m, 40m, and 20m for five sets. The participants' aim is to complete the test in as quick a time as possible.” The total distance covered in the drill is 1200 metres.

Rohit last played competitive cricket during IPL 2025, where he scored 418 runs at an average of 29.85 and a strike rate of 149.28. However, his ODI numbers have been outstanding in recent years.

Since 2023, he has piled up 1714 runs in 38 matches at an average of 48.97 and a strike rate of 117.2. In the powerplay, he has been even more dominant - striking at 122.57 while averaging 67.41. He is the only batter with more than 1000 runs in that phase in this period.

Meanwhile, there is speculation that both Rohit and Virat Kohli could represent India A in a three-match one-day series against Australia A, scheduled from September 30 to October 5.

The three ODIs against Australia will be played on October 19, 23, and 25.
