The Indian Premier League (IPL) is the single-biggest source of attraction in the cricket world because of the player exclusivity it exercises, and this has meant that we’ve not had the opportunity to witness Indian stars in other T20 leagues across the world.
Yet believe it or not, we’ve had as many as three Indian players feature in both the IPL and the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). Wondering who those three players are? Let us loop you in.
One of the biggest names in IPL history, with 204 appearances and six trophies to his name, Ambati Rayudu has made four appearances in the CPL. All of those appearances came in the 2023 season for St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots, after he’d announced his retirement from Indian cricket altogether.
Clearly past his prime, Rayudu could never hit the ground running in the CPL, however. He batted thrice and scored 47 runs at an average of 15.67 and strike rate of 117.5.
Quite the disappointing stint.
The second-oldest Indian to ever feature in the IPL, at the age of 44, Pravin Tambe made 3three appearances in the CPL back in 2020. He represented Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) in an extremely successful season for the side, as they won 12/12 in a legendary campaign that saw them go invincible.
Tambe played three matches and took three wickets at a remarkable economy of 4.00. In a clash against St Kitts & Nevis Patriots, he registered figures of 1/9 off four overs - all this at the age of 48.
Opening batter Sunny Sohal was a regular in the IPL between 2008 and 2011, making a total of 22 appearances for two franchises, Deccan Chargers and Punjab Kings. Sohal showed glimpses of his talent, but he was unable to break through in the IPL. He then shifted base to the United States.
This enabled the batter to feature in the CPL.
In 2018, he played two games for Barbados, for whom he opened the batting. Sohal scored 17 off 17 and 22 off 20 but did not play a match after that. A year later, though, he played three T20Is for the USA.
