India completed a comprehensive win in the first T20 International (T20I) over South Africa by a massive 101 runs in Cuttack. With this win, they have made a huge statement that they are serious contenders to win the T20 World Cup in 2026, which will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
India have not been lucky when it comes to tosses. In fact, they finally won the toss in One-Day Internationals (ODI) recently, after a two-year wait, and also lost the toss in the first T20I. However, former India spinner Harbhajan Singh believes India are not a team who are too fussed about tosses, but are more focused on getting the results.
“If Hardik Pandya hadn’t scored that knock, then there wouldn’t have been runs for India to defend. But in the end, actually, it didn’t make much of a difference, because where is 175 and where is 74? It is a massive thing to win a T20 game by 101 runs and that too in such conditions where it is easier to bat after dew comes in. This is the mindset of Team India, they don’t care who wins the toss, all they care about is getting the result in their favour," Harbhajan said while speaking on his YouTube channel.
Pandya returned to the team, smashing an unbeaten 59 off just 28 deliveries. India's bowling too was brilliant as they bundled the Proteas out inside 13 overs, with Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Varun Chakaravarthy and Axar Patel picking up two wickets apiece.
South Africa will hope to bounce back in the second T20I, which will be played in Mullanpur on December 11 (Thursday).
