Former India captain Kapil Dev blamed scheduling for the injuries to the Indian players ahead of important tournaments. The latest in the list of injured players is Jasprit Bumrah.
“The only thing that worries me is that they play for 10 months a year — injuries will be much more common,” Dev was quoted as saying by Indian Express.
However, the World Cup winning captain was not worried a lot at Bumrah’s absence, saying that cricket is a team game and is won by 11 players on the ground, unlike individual sports where one player makes all the difference.
“Why talk about someone who is not in the team? It’s a team game, and the team has to win, not individuals. This is not badminton, tennis, or golf; we are playing a team sport in the Champions Trophy. If we play as a team, we will definitely win,” he said.
“You never want your main players to get injured, but if it happens, you can’t do anything about it. Good luck to my Indian team — go and play well,” added the 66-year-old.
India will open their Champions Trophy campaign against Bangladesh on February 20th in Dubai.
