Third Time Lucky: Shakib Al Hasan Cleared Of Suspect Bowling Action
It is the first good news for the player who could not take part in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025
Shakib Al Hasan finally has some good news as he was cleared of his suspected bowling action at the third attempt. Having been forced to leave his country after the bloody Student Protests that saw the then Bangladesh government fall, of which Shakib was also a part, the all-rounder had tons of bad news coming his way.
It included him not being allowed a farewell Test at home and then getting banned from bowling for suspect bowling action, reported during his stint with Surrey in County Cricket in 2024.
"The news is right [passing about the bowling test], and I am cleared to bowl again," Shakib was quoted as saying to Cricbuzz.
The left-arm spin-bowling all-rounder was not picked as a specialist batter in the Bangladesh squad for the ICC Champions Trophy, which would have been his farewell tournament in international cricket, having already retired from the T20Is after the T20 World Cup 2024 and Tests after the India series.
Although the 37-year-old wanted to play a farewell Test in Dhaka against South Africa, students protested against Shakib’s return to his homeland.
Before the success of this latest reassessment, Shakib had undergone tests in England and India, both of which he failed. Bangladesh’s next assignment is a home series against Zimbabwe, and it is highly unlikely that Shakib will be a part of it.
