Gujarat Titans batter Sherfane Rutherford and West Indies Test captain Roston Chase were at the forefront of a successful chase against Pakistan in the second ODI of the three-match 50-over series between the two sides.
In the second game, played at the Brian Lara Academy at Tarouba, Trinidad on August 10 (Sunday), the hosts were set a target of 184 in a rain-reduced game.
It was thanks to a brilliant bowling performance from pacer Jayden Seales that West Indies reduced the Pakistani side to 171/7 in the 37 overs of play possible in the first innings.
With the target being under 200, the chase could have been tricky if not for the calculated risks taken by the likes of Rutherford and the patience shown by Chase.
After the Men in Maroon were reduced to 48/3, it was first the partnership between skipper Shai Hope and Rutherford (54 off 40 balls) that got them near the target and then the one between Chase and Justin Greaves (unbeaten 77 off 72 balls) that saw them home.
Earlier, Pakistan were unable to get the desired first innings total as number six Hasan Nawaz top-scored for them with an unbeaten 36. The third and final and deciding game of the series will be played on August 12 at the same venue.
