England have called up Somerset batter Tom Banton as cover for the third One-Day International (ODI) against India, which will be played in Ahmedabad on February 12 (Wednesday).
Jacob Bethell, who was roped in by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 for INR 2.6 crore, sustained a left hamstring injury and will be assessed when the team arrives in Ahmedabad on February 10 (Monday).
Banton last played for his six ODIs in 2020 and has been in top form in T20 leagues. He is currently the top-scorer in the International League T20 (ILT20), where he has scored 493 runs from 11 innings, including two centuries for MI Emirates.
He is expected to arrive in India next week. England lost the first ODI in Nagpur by four wickets, where Bethell scored a fifty and picked up a wicket in the match. He is also part of England's Champions Trophy squad. To stay alive in the series, they will hope to win the ongoing game in Cuttack. They had also slipped to a 4-1 series defeat
