Top 3 Slowest T20I Knocks By Babar Azam
Babar has often been criticised heavily for playing too slowly in the shortest format of the game
Pakistan’s Babar Azam is known for his batting style, but despite being classical and elegant in his approach and shot making, the right-handed batter has failed to live up to the expectations of the run rate when it comes to the shortest format.
Here are the top three slowest innings played by Babar in T20 international cricket. A minimum of 30 balls has been taken as the cut-off.
25 off 33 balls vs Bangladesh in Adelaide, 2022
Babar's slowest T20I knock came against Bangladesh during the T20 World Cup 2022. Ironically, his team went on to win that game. Babar, while chasing 128 to win, scored 25 off 33 balls. But the team recovered eventually, and quick innings from Mohammad Haris and Shan Masood meant that the target was chased with 11 balls to spare.
27 off 32 balls vs Sri Lanka in Lahore, 2019
Babar's second-slowest knock in the 20-over format in international cricket came in 2019 against Sri Lanka, when he was not the captain of the side. The then 23-year-old could muster just 27 off 32 balls as Pakistan could only muster 134/6 while chasing 148 to win. The match was played at Lahore.
41 off 45 balls vs Zimbabwe in Harare, 2021
The 30-year-old’s third-slowest knock came in 2021 on a tour of Zimbabwe. In the second T20 international of the three-match series at Harare, Babar managed to get 41, but after playing 45 balls, scoring at a strike rate of 91.11, as his team failed to chase down even 119, losing the match by 19 runs.
