It is the penultimate match of the league stage of CPL 2020. In a dead rubber contest, the table-toppers Trinbago Knight Riders go up against the table footers St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in Match 29. For Knight Riders, this match is all about momentum and they do not want to lose that heading into the semi-finals.

In the reverse leg, Knight Riders beat the Patriots by 59 runs. Riding on a sensational knock by Lendl Simmons (96), Trinbago posted 174. In the last five matches. Patriots have managed to beat them only once. This gives an advantage to the Knight Riders.

While you could go for the above team, you also have the option of choosing your own team from cricket.com Fantasy Research Centre. Based on algorithms, we come up with six different teams that could fetch crucial points.

GROUND DETAILS

It is no secret that the Brian Lara stadium surface has supported the bowlers this season. The surfaces have been slow and run-scoring a challenge.

In 16 matches played at Tarouba this season, batsmen have scored at 23.3 runs per wicket with the bowlers managing a wicket every 18.9 balls. The average first innings score so far in CPL 2020 at Tarouba has been a low 144 excluding the no result match (Match 25)

The nature of the pitch has behaved quite differently in the 1st match of the day as compared to the 2nd match of the day. The batsmen have enjoyed batting a bit in the 1st, whereas, it has been an absolute struggle for the batsmen in 2nd match of the day.

TEAM COMBINATION

The pacers have done a touch better than the spinners at Brian Lara Stadium this season. They have bagged 56.0% of the wickets as compared to 44.0% by spinners. Pacers balls/dismissal ratio is also better than the spinners.

The Patriots bowlers are slightly better than the Knight Riders at the Brian Lara Stadium in this season. Their bowlers have managed to achieve a breakthrough every 17.8 balls, whereas, Trinbago bowlers have bagged a wicket every 18.0 balls.

However, when it comes to batting, none can match Trinbago. They have a batting average of 40.0 with a strike rate of 145.3, which is the highest by a far distance at this venue. This suggests to pack your team with players like Colin Munro, Lendl Simmons and Darren Bravo for the batsmen role.

The Trinbago skipper Pollard, and the T20s highest wicket-taker, Dwayne Bravo will be the lead choice of allrounders. As for bowlers, Patriots skipper himself is a valuable selection. Khary Pierre, Jon-Russ Jaggesar, and Imran Khan are also an option to be considered.

There could be a few interesting match-ups too.

CHRIS LYNN vs DWAYNE BRAVO

Lynn might be good against pacers in his T20 career, but Bravo is a trickster, it is not easy to score runs against him. In the 5 innings, Lynn has scored runs at a strike rate of 132 at an average of 11.

EVIN LEWIS vs DWAYNE BRAVO

Both the Patriots openers have found it hard going against Bravo in T20s. Lewis in the 7 innings has got out to him thrice at an average of 14.7. He has scored runs at a strike rate of 125.7.

DARREN BRAVO vs SHELDON COTTRELL

The left handed middle order bat has struggled against the likes of Cottrell. In the 8 innings he has faced him, Cottrell has the better of Bravo on three occasions and has conceded at 12 per wicket.

SUGGESTED CAPTAIN

LENDL SIMMONS: With the tournament heading towards the business end and looking at one of the batting stalwarts of Trinbago hitting a purple patch is surely a confidence booster. Simmons scored a 96 in the reverse leg against the Patriots and his record against them overall is also decent.

He has been one of Knight Riders' successful batsmen this season with 218 runs at a strike rate of 110.1. Against the Patriots he has scored 297 runs at a strike rate of 140.8, which is his best against an opponent in CPL. Riding on the back of a good form, Simmons is certainly a match-winner.

Our Criclytics player projector predicts, Simmons would score 23-44 runs in Match 29 of CPL 2020

X-FACTOR

COLIN MUNRO: The left-handed opener from New Zealand has been a consistent performer for Trinbago in recent times. He alongside Glenn Phillips have scored over 1000 runs in CPL since 2018. He has scored those runs at an average of 41.9 which is the 2nd most among batsmen who have played more than 25 innings. Munro is the 3rd joint highest run-scorer this season for Trinbago with 207 runs and two 50+ scores.

Our Criclytics player projector predicts, Munro would score 17-38 runs in Match 29 of CPL 2020

SHELDON COTTRELL: Cottrell may not have had a great season of CPL, but the left-arm pacer has been at his best when he is playing against Trinbago. He has 21 wickets against the Knight Riders which is the 2nd most for a bowler against them. This is also the most wickets he has taken against an opponent in CPL. The 21 wickets have come every 14.1 balls, which is decent enough to say he is one of the X-factors.

Our Criclytics player projector predicts, Cottrell would pick 0-3 wickets in Match 29 of CPL 2020

KIERON POLLARD: When all else failed, the Trinbago skipper has stepped up every time into the occasion and his 72 against the Tridents was conspicuous of it. Pollard has scored over 200 runs this season at a whopping strike rate of 204.9. No other batsmen with 100 or more runs have scored at a strike rate of over 155. This authoritative batting display is for sure an X-factor that prioritizes his selection in the fantasy team.

Our Criclytics player projector predicts, Pollard would score 17-32 runs in Match 29 of CPL 2020.
