Dasun Shanaka gave a glimpse of how hectic the life of a modern cricketer can get, as he first played a first-class game in Sri Lanka for his club SSC and helped them avoid relegation by scoring a century. Then he flew from Colombo to Dubai in the evening after completing the game and then went straight to the ground from the airport to play the ILT20.
Even in the ILT20 game against the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders, Shanaka helped his team, Dubai Capitals, post their highest total in the season by scoring 34 runs off just 12 deliveries.
Shanaka reached Sri Lanka on January 30 and participated in the first-class club game for SSC, which was languishing at the bottom of the points table in its group and faced the risk of relegation unless it won its remaining matches.
Apart from Shanaka, Charith Asalanka and Avishka Fernando also flew back to play the game for SSC.
Shanaka, who was the Sri Lankan skipper until recently, is a sought-after allrounder in franchise leagues worldwide and has been featured in the most prominent ones. On the day, his 34 off 12 helped the Capitals cross 200 after David Warner had played a splendid knock at the top of the order and scored an unbeaten 93 on his ILT20 return.
