UAE Women Replace USA To Gain Women's ODI Status

UAE confirmed their ODI status after being 16th on the T20I rankings at the time of annual ranking updates

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) women’s team have confirmed their ODI status after ending up 16th on the T20I ranking table at the time of the annual rankings update. UAE women replaced USA in the list of 16 women’s teams with ICC ODI status for the upcoming 2025-29 cycle, which starts from May 12.

Notably, the 16 ODI status sides in the women’s game include Thailand, Netherlands, Papua New Guinea (PNG), and Scotland.

Thailand and Scotland, who are currently 11th and 12th place on the T20I rankings, respectively, played the Women’s ODI World Cup Qualifiers in Pakistan, where the home side and Bangladesh qualified for the tournament that will be held in India later this year.

Although Pakistan have already clarified that they won’t be playing in India due to the pre-agreed hybrid model due to the ongoing political tensions between the two nations. Scotland were fourth in the six-team competition, meanwhile, Thailand were sixth after losing all their games in the competition.

USA, who are currently on a bilateral tour to Zimbabwe, have already lost the T20I series 2-1 but have managed to win the first of the three ODIs they are scheduled to play on the tour.

It’s noteworthy here that teams are given ODI status after playing at least eight ODIs over a three to four-year period while maintaining their international rankings.
