Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star Sameer Rizvi, who currently plays for Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), is having a stellar season in the 2025 Uttar Pradesh T20 (UPT20).
Rizvi’s side, Kanpur Superstars are currently bottom with five losses in five games, but he’s currently the second-highest run-getter in the tournament, with 260 runs at an average of 52 and a strike rate of 151.20.
Today in Lucknow against the Rinku Singh-led Meerut Mavericks, Rizvi posted his second consecutive big score of the season as he followed up the 93 he scored against Gorakhpur Lions with a 78* off 48 in which he hit 7 fours and 5 sixes. Rizvi’s effort on the day was a one-man show as no other Kanpur batter passed 25. The team was, in fact, reeling at 74/5 at one point, and from this position the right-hander’s efforts helped the team reach 149/6.
The knock today was the fourth instance of Rizvi crossing the 25-run mark in UPT20 2025, in six innings.
He was bought for INR 8.4 crore by CSK two seasons ago, but was released after a disappointing campaign. He got to play only five games for DC in IPL 2025 but impressed for the Capitals, averaging 40 while striking at over 150. He smashed 58* off 25 balls against Punjab Kings in Jaipur, and walked away with the Player of the Match award for his efforts.
