UP Warriorz’ Vrinda Dinesh is ruled out of the remainder of the Women’s Premier League after suffering a shoulder injury on February 28 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, against Mumbai Indians.
To cover up for her absence, UP Warriorz have signed wicket-keeper Uma Chetry as a replacement at her reserve price of INR 10 lakhs. Uma recently played for India A against England A and was also a part of the victorious India A Emerging squad that won the ACC Emerging Women’s Asia Cup 2023.
Earlier this year, Chetry became the first player from Assam to have been called up to the Indian squad for the Bangladesh tour and it was a surprise when she didn’t find any takers in the WPL auction.
Meanwhile, Vrinda Dinesh, one of India’s brightest young batters, was a part of the UP squad for the first three matches. She was the second most expensive uncapped buy in the auction after Gujarat Giants pacer Kashvee Gautam, who too has been ruled out of the tournament.
