After three years, where results were a mixed bag, the WPL franchise UP Warriorz have parted ways with their head coach Jon Lewis, on June 27 (Friday). The franchise took to social media to make the announcement, after a rather lacklustre WPL 2025 season, where they finished last, with just six points.
While Lewis was successful in the franchise’s first season, where he took them to the playoffs, the results from thereon were dwindling. The team finished fourth in 2024 and was possibly by far the worst team in the recently concluded WPL season.
It remains to be seen whether the franchise will go in for a local coach or look at the Australian legend, Lisa Sthalekar, for the top job.
Earlier this year, Lewis also stepped down from his role as England women’s team head coach. MI’s assistant coach Charlotte Edwards replaced Lewis at the helm. The year has gone from bad to worse for the man at the helm of English women's team who were humiliated with a score line of 0-16 show at the Ashes Down Under.
