Varun Chakaravarthy struggled to finish his spell in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final against New Zealand on March 9 (Sunday) at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium (DICS). He seemed to be in a lot of pain while bowling.
But even after visible discomfort, Chakaravrthy bowled a great spell, finishing with figures of 2/45. In the mid-innings break, the mystery spinner gave a crucial update on his injury before the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
“It is a little sore,” Chakaravarthy said after commentator Rameez Raja asked him about his injury.
“It was a good wicket compared to the last wicket. It was not turning much. All I could do was stick it into the stump line and wait for the batter to make some mistake,” added the 33-year-old, who was able to dismiss main men Glenn Phillips and Will Young.
Talking about his approach to bowling, Chakavarthy said, “I like bowling in the death and the powerplay, it is more challenging and gives me more opportunity to pick wickets.”
And who are the bowlers he likes to form partnerships with? The right-arm spinner said, “I like talking to Kuldeep, even Jaddu bhai and Axar. I am pretty new to this setup, and I am looking to build some nice bonds.”
