Kuldeep Yadav recovering from injury?
Yuzvendra Chahal struggling with form?
No worries for India as Varun Chakaravarthy showcased his worth with a five-wicket haul in the second pre-quarter-final against Rajasthan in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy. The mystery spinner has been on song in the current edition, with 18 wickets, averaging 12.16 with an outstanding economy of 4.36.
Varun continued his stellar form in a must-win encounter for Tamil Nadu with figures of 5/52 in nine overs. The mystery spinner first bamboozled Mahipal Lomror with a delivery that spun past his defence to hit the top of the off-stump. A few deliveries later, Varun bowled a booming off-spinner that crashed into Deepak Hooda’s middle stump.
The 33-year-old removed a well-set Abhijeet Tomar (111 off 125) before removing Kukna Ajay Singh and Khaleel Ahmed to complete his five-wicket haul. It was his second five-wicket haul in the competition after his figures of 5/9 against Mizoram.
With Gautam Gambhir knowing the mystery spinner well, there’s a strong chance that he could find his way into the Indian dressing room for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
