VB Kanchi Veerans will face Ruby Trichy Warriors at the Indian Cement Company Ground, Tirunelveli in the 28th match of Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2019.

The Kanchi Veerans are currently fifth in the standings with six points and a net run-rate (NRR) of +0.575, while the Trichy Warriors are languishing near the bottom of the table, having won only once in six matches. For the Kanchi Veerans, this is a must-win match if they have to qualify for the playoffs. Since they have a higher NRR than fourth-placed Lyca Kovai Kings, winning this match would take them into the top four.

VENUE AND PITCH

In the 45 T20 matches played at Tirunelveli, the average first innings score is 154. The toss is unlikely to make a huge difference as 51% of matches have been won by the team batting first. In the last three years, 93% of wickets that have been taken across domestic T20 matches at this venue have come from spin. Hence, from a fantasy perspective, having spinners in your team is a must.

In the last two matches played on this ground, it has been extremely tough to score, with even table-toppers Dindigul Dragons getting all out for 99. In fact, no team has scored above 140 in the last four innings here. Hence, look at limiting your batsmen in your fantasy team to the minimum of three.

With this being the second match played on this ground and track, the pitch is bound to slow down further, providing even more assistance to bowlers, particularly the spinners. Populate your fantasy team with as many spinners and all-rounders as possible as the ground and pitch will aid them and, as a result, enable you to score points.

VB KANCHI VEERANS

Among the Kanchi Veerans players, Rajagopal Satish has been the most consistent all-rounder. As a batsman, he has aggregated 161 runs at a strike-rate of 183 (the highest in this team) in six innings so far.

As a bowler, with seven wickets to his name, he has been among the leading wicket-takers for his side. He is the only player to have scored 150 runs and taken at least five wickets in this edition of the TNPL yet.

Satish also has a good strike rate against both pace and spin, striking at 183.3 and 145.2 respectively, with his dot ball percentage also being very low against both kinds of bowling (21% and 31% respectively).

According to our Criclytics engine, with 32-39 points predicted, he’s projected to be among the leading fantasy picks for this game.

In the Powerplay phase, Aushik Srinivas and Gowtham Kannan have the best bowling strike rate for the Kanchi Veerans so far, taking a wicket every 18 balls and 15 balls respectively. And they have been among the wickets as well.

Kanchi Veerans captain Baba Aparajith has not been consistent this season, having scored over 30 in just two innings, but it’s important to note that both those knocks were at Tirunelveli. He has scored 471 runs at this venue, which is the second best for a batsman here in the tournament’s history. Hence, it’ll be reasonable to expect him to come good in this match.

Our Criclytics engine predicts S Lokeshwar to be the top points-getter for Kanchi Veerans with 29-57 points, followed by Satish with 32-39 points and P Francis Rokins with 17-39 points.

RUBY TRICHY WARRIORS

For Trichy Warriors, the best player so far has been Murali Vijay. He has scored 359 runs in just four innings at an average of 119 and a strike rate of 149. He is the only batsman to average over 100 in TNPL 2019, a cut above the rest.

When he has played, Vijay has contributed 53% of the team’s runs, making the Trichy Warriors heavily dependent on him.

If no one other than Vijay steps up in this match, it’s bound to be another defeat for the Warriors. Criclytics projects Vijay to score 71-106 runs, based on his consistent high scores in the previous four innings.

R Sai Kishore is the leading wicket-taker in TNPL history, but this season, he hasn’t been up to the mark, averaging only one wicket per match. The Trichy skipper needs to be among the wickets if his team are to perform well.

At Tirunelveli, for Trichy Warriors, Sanjay Srinath and G Chandrasekar have been the leading wicket-takers with 13 and 12 scalps at bowling strike rates of 16.1 and 18.6 respectively. They will be expected to step up and turn out similar performances in this match if Trichy are to win.

Criclytics projects Vijay (60-100 points) and Aditya Ganesh (10-30 points) to be the leading fantasy picks from the Trichy Warriors for this match.
