Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) trolled Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Ruturaj Gaikwad during the second semi-final of the Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) 2024-25 on January 16 (Thursday).
The incident happened when Gaikwad, skipper of the Maharashtra team, was caught by Jitesh Sharma of Vidarbha. Jitesh is now an RCB player after he was picked in the IPL 2025 mega auction.
In December 2024, when Gaikwad's mic got switched off during a ceremony where he was addressing a crowd, the Maharashtra man nonchalantly blamed RCB, saying it must have been their guy operating the mic.
Referring to that comment, RCB posted the video on the social media site Twitter, where Jitesh caught Gaikwad. They captioned the tweet, “It is someone from RCB.”
Vidrabha, thanks to centuries from their openers Dhruv Shorey and Yash Rathod and a blitzkrieg of a knock from captain Karun Nair, managed to post 380/3 in their 50 overs.
Chasing that, Maharashtra were reduced to 111/3 before Ankit Bawne and Arshin Kulkarni put on 94 for the fourth wicket to provide some sort of semblance to the scorecard.
For Gaikwad, though, a rather dry tournament in terms of runs came to an end. Maharashtra's victory became almost impossible after they were reduced to 258/6 in 45 overs.
The 27-year-old scored just one hundred, which came against Services. That was also his only 50-plus score in the tournament.
