Vijay Hazare Trophy 24/25: Arshdeep Singh's fifer blows Mumbai's top-order away

Arshdeep’s five-wicket haul included both Shreyas Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav’s wickets in Punjab’s clash against Mumbai

After starting the tournament on a relative low, Arshdeep Singh blew open Mumbai’s packed top order away in their Vijay Hazare Trophy clash, removing five out of the top six batters, including Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube.

Arshdeep started the tournament with figures of 1/67 against Nagaland before picking up 2/48 against Karnataka, underperforming for Punjab. But cometh the hour, the left-arm pacer struck and struck gold, starting with Angkrish Raghuvanshi’s wicket in the first over of the innings.

The 25-year-old didn’t stop there, continuing his obliteration, removing the other Mumbai opener, Ayush Mhatre. But what was special was how he operated against Mumbai’s stalwarts, Iyer and Suryakumar. First, he dismissed Suryakumar for a five-ball duck before cleaning up Iyer for a run-a-ball 17.

Despite bowling a lengthy six-over spell, Arshdeep wasn’t done, returning for a seventh over, which proved lucky for Punjab, as he dismissed Dube, who looked threatening at the crease, smashing a 25-ball 17. It took him just 41 balls to complete a five-wicket haul against possibly one of the best batting units in the competition.
