NEWSIn Adam Zampa’s absence, Royal Challengers Bangalore confirmed the arrival of Sri Lankan leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga, who ranks No.2 on the T20I rankings for bowlers. The leg-spinners’ arrival definitely strengthens the squad, who were a bit short on the spin end, with Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar being their front-line spinners.
Hailing the inclusion of Hasaranga, former Indian opener Aakash Chopra stated that the Sri Lankan all-rounder is a phenomenal inclusion for the franchise. The former opener also cited that it could give RCB a two-wrist spinner combination, going into the second half of the 2021 season.
“He did an amazing job in Sri Lanka. He was contributing in every match he played. So Hasaranga, I think is a phenomenal inclusion. If you want, you can play Hasaranga along with Chahal. You can go in with two wrist spinners,” Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
“Adam Zampa is not there, so they have taken Hasaranga for him. Interestingly enough, there was a doubt about his availability earlier and was thus not picked in the auction. But everyone believed that he should have been picked because he has done well whenever he has played T20 cricket, whether for his country or otherwise,” Chopra said.
Chopra also was in awe of Tim David, another T20 star that the franchise had acquired, after Daniel Sams was unavailable for the second half of the tournament.
“Daniel Sams is also not coming. They have got Tim David. His T20 numbers are outstanding. Singapore-born Australian player. He has hit with an excellent strike rate and played for a lot of teams - Perth Scorchers, Hobart, St Lucia Kings and now in the Hundred. He has been playing in a lot of T20/Hundred kind of leagues,” Chopra added.
