Wanindu Hasaranga tests positive just hours before third T20

Hasaranga is currently the No.1-ranked T20I bowler in the world and also the leading wicket-taker in the series so far

Covid-19 cases continue to put the Sri Lankan team under pressure as the camp has witnessed their third COVID-19 case in eight days as star leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga tested positive on Tuesday, just hours before the third T20I against Australia.

However, that wouldn't affect the scheduling as Cricket Australia and Sri Lanka Cricket confirmed that the game will be scheduled tonight. Earlier, Kusal Mendis and Binura Fernando had contracted the virus during their five-match tour.

"Wanindu Hasaranga has tested positive for Covid-19. The player was found to be positive during a routine Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) conducted this morning (15th February). Hasaranga is currently undergoing Covid-19 protocols and is placed in isolation," Sri Lanka Cricket tweeted.

Sri Lanka are currently down 0-2 in the series but are expected to welcome Kusal Mendis as he is available for selection for the Manuka Oval match after serving his seven-day isolation period, which started when he tested positive to RAT and PCR tests on February 7.

Hasaranga is currently the No.1-ranked T20I bowler in the world and also the leading wicket-taker in the series so far, snaring five victims at 14.20 with an economy rate of 8.87.
