Wanted to capitalize on Rashid’s bad balls: Rahmanullah Gurbaz

The way Rahmanullah Gurbaz took down of Rashid Khan was special, for the Afghanistan spinner conceded 54 runs in his overs

Kolkata Knight Riders’ sagging fortunes have further dwindled with yet another loss to Gujarat Titans on Saturday, which means they now have just three wins from nine games, but their only positive from the encounter was the breath-taking batting display by Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who scored a 39-ball 81 to help KKR to 179 runs.

Especially his take-down of Rashid Khan was special, for the Afghanistan spinner conceded 54 runs in his overs. On being asked about how he managed to do that, Gurbaz put it down to his simple plan of hitting every loose ball that came his way.

“I can’t say [batting against] Rashid is easy. For everyone, he is difficult. He is one of the best. But, I had a simple plan against him - if he bowls a loose ball to me, I will go for it. That was my simple plan to build my innings,” said Gurbaz.

Talking about the fortune of his side, Gurbaz, who opened in place of injured Jason Roy, said they gave their best but the end result was not in their control.

“We should try to get the momentum back. We played really well at the start and won some matches as well. But sometimes luck does not work. Everyone is working hard, 100 percent. We tried our best, but the end result was on their side. We can’t do anything about that.”
