Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Asif makes an explosive claim stating that Waqar Younis used to cheat with the ball to get reverse swing. Asif added that the current Pakistan bowling coach did not know how to bowl with the new ball and only learnt that closer to the end of his career.
"Waqar Younis used to cheat with the ball to do reverse swing. He did not know how to bowl with the new ball in most of his career. He learned a bit about bowling with the new ball in the twilight phase of his career." Asif told Pakistan news channel ARY News.
Asif went on to question Waqar's ability as a coach, saying, "People know Waqar as a master of reverse swing but he never developed a single bowler who could bowl a perfect reverse swing. These people are in coaching for the last 20 years but they never produced quality bowlers. They lack consistency in making combinations. We have quantity, not quality bowlers."
Waqar finished his career with 373 Test wickets and 416 ODI wickets and is regarded as one of the finest bowlers from his country. Asif, on the other hand, was banned for spot-fixing during Pakistan's tour of England in 2010. He has played 73 matches for Pakistan and has picked up 165 wickets in all formats.
