NEWSCricket Australia (CA) are contemplating whether to rest David Warner and Pat Cummins for the upcoming tour of West Indies due to family reasons, according to a report in Sydney Morning Herald. This move could also help avoid a confrontation of sorts between the players after the latest revelations from Cameron Bancroft that suggested that the Australian bowlers knew in advance of the happenings during the 2018 Cape Town Test against South Africa.
Considered one of the lowest points in Australia cricket, Bancroft, Warner and then captain Steven Smith were banned for planning and executing tampering with the ball. Warner and Cummins, who play all formats for Australia, were named in the Australia squad for the upcoming Caribbean tour.
Warner's manager James Erskine has been vocal about the poor handling of the sandpapergate investigation, saying that the three players had been treated despicably. “The whole thing was so badly handled, it was a joke,” he said
The bowlers too had issued a joint statement denying any prior knowledge about the ball-tampering, which the former Australia captain does not believe to be true.
Australia and West Indies are scheduled to play five T20Is and three ODIS, starting from July 9.
