Was Hoping Would Get Back To DC: Shikha Pandey, After Being Picked By UPW
Shikha Pandey was surprised but pleased as she joined UP Warriorz after the Delhi Capitals' exit
Veteran India pacer Shikha Pandey admitted she was hoping to be retained by Delhi Capitals for the upcoming Women's Premier League (WPL) 2026. But after being released, she has landed at UP Warriorz with a big amount in her kitty. Pandey, who played three seasons for Delhi and picked up 30 wickets in 27 matches, said she was “looking forward to being part of the Delhi Capitals franchise” this season.
At the mega auction held on 27 November, UP Warriorz secured her services for ₹ 2.4 crore — a figure that reflects the high regard teams still hold for her despite India not capping her since 2023.
“I was slightly anxious since yesterday, but I knew that whatever happens, happens. I’ve put in a lot of hard work over the past three seasons, and I’m really happy to be joining the UP Warriorz family. It’s definitely exciting to be part of a new team," Pandey told Sports Today, as quoted by India Today.
“I have a lot of gratitude for Delhi Capitals for the opportunities I had over the past three seasons — the coaching staff and everyone involved made it an incredible experience, so a huge thank you to the Delhi Capitals family.”
Looking ahead, Pandey showed optimism about her new surroundings and teammates, especially the prospect of playing alongside Meg Lanning, who has also moved to UPW in the auction from DC, just like her.
“Now, looking ahead to UP Warriors, I’m really happy to be joining them. I’m excited that Meg Lanning will be leading the team, and there are so many players I’ve played with before, as well as new teammates I’m looking forward to playing alongside. Sophie Ecclestone, for example, is someone I’m particularly excited to play with," the veteran pacer added.
