Was shocked to learn about Asghar Afghan's retirement: Mohammad Nabi

The former Afghanistan captain scored 31 off 23 in his last outing for his country

Afghanistan cruised to a 62-run over Namibia in Abu Dhabi and have bounced back emphatically after going down to Pakistan in their previous match. They have now won two of their three Super 12 matches so far.

It was an emotional day for Asghar Afghan, who announced his retirement on Saturday (October 30) and he managed to sign off with 31 off 23. Skipper Mohammad Nabi said that he was shocked when Afghan had informed of his decision.

"Last night, he (Asghar Afghan) told me that tomorrow would be my last game and I was shocked. It was his decision. He has captained the side for almost 6-7 years. He was very consistent with his captaincy in T20Is. He had already decided that tomorrow will be my last game," Nabi said at the post-match presentation.

Player of the match Naveen-ul-Haq also paid tribute to Afghan saying that he will be missed by all his teammates. "Afghan is the best captain Afghanistan has ever produced, he has done a lot for our cricket, his name will be etched in the annals of our history and he'll be missed a lot by all of us," Naveen who finished with figures of 3 for 26 said.

Namibia skipper Gerhard Erasmus says that his side knew it would be tough to come up against such a lethal attack as Afghanistan and hopes that his team will learn from playing at this level. "The quality in the attack and in their country is wonderful. We are aware of the challenges. We need to make use of this level. This is a stepping stone for the future," Erasmus said.

Afghanistan will next play India in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday (November 3) while Namibia will take on Pakistan on Tuesday (November 2)
